Just a quick post tonight, which is just as well.
Today was our first day of a new year of homeschooling, and filling six little brains with knowledge has a way of depleting the few brain cells I have left. The good news is we made it to the Atlanta History Center downtown and back home again without leaving any kids behind or getting hopelessly lost. The bad news is my sweeties have to start practicing piano again and none of them have an especially light touch with the keys. Now I know why summer was so blissfully peaceful and relaxing.
Ah, well. Summer’s over. It’s time to look forward to all this month has to offer, and home school is one of those things for me. Another August event I’ve been looking forward to is the new issue of Guardian Angel Kids. This free e-zine, designed for children ages 2-12 years old (as well as parents, teachers, and librarians), is published monthly online. The theme for August is “Fun with Music” and I’m thrilled they chose my children’s poem “Jenny’s Song” for publication in the latest issue.
If you have a moment, please read my poem about a girl who loves to sing, but can’t ever hit the right notes. And if you happen you have a child or two at home, please share this delightful e-zine with them!

I was surprised to read about your published poem! Congratulations! I went right to the link and read it; it’s very cute. Sounds like a kid or two of mine, but I don’t think any of them will play the harp.
Can’t believe you started up school already, but I guess that’s smart with the upcoming new baby. If I know your kids, they were probably excited about starting the school year early. XO
Thanks, Louie! I have to say, I can’t really imagine one of your kids on the harp, either. (Or any of mine for that matter!) And yes, we wouldn’t have started school just yet except that we’ll need a few weeks off in September. And Katie was the only excited kid. The rest were like the walking dead this morning.
Congrats! That is awesome!
Hope you guys had fun at the History center!
Thanks, Stephanie! The history center was very interesting – we’ll definitely go back!
Loved the poem, Deb! Way to go!! And way to go to Julia, too — I recognized the Abeka phonics sheet she was working on!! xoxo
Thanks, Mom! I bet you recognized that worksheet, too.
You can probably see those in your sleep.
Great poem. And good for you, homeschooling your crew.
Thank you, Sally! For the most part, we have a great time. There’s something exciting about seeing a child learn something first time.
You rocked that poem, Mom!!! My favorite verse is the last one. It really is a piece of art!
Thank you, Katie. The last verse is my favorite, too. I knew that before I knew most of the other lines!
Yeah, Deb, you rocked that poem! BIG congrats! Now go rock those home-schoolers!
Thanks, Cath! I’m trying to rock those little homeschoolers, but they have a way of resisting.
